Oh-one-oh-one-oh-va (0101OVA) Remixed Art

“0101OVA” by K.I.A., 5’ x 5’, 2008, acrylic on aluminum (with one red strip from “Re(d)one”) installed at collectors;

Circle inside circle inside circle on 10 (intermixable) panels.

The idea of these works is to take a very simple shape, and see how complex it gets as it’s rearranged, both visually and with possible content connotations.The panels are also intermixable with other paintings.

Additionally, the long strips evolved from singular pieces, which themselves had various informational and natural references: DNA subtyping, bar codes, skyscrapers, shells, raked lines in a Japanese garden, wood grain, and so on.

The works are also done in many, many layers of gloss, matte, transparent, and opaque paint, which causes the painting to change according to the light and viewer’s angle... the silver flashes or glows, the textures shadow or disappear, etc...
