synchronicity, splicing, stacked time

Genetically modified time; this ongoing series of paintings are a visual metaphor for lifetimes over eons, and situations, talents,  and people spliced across them all as revealed by synchronicities (more below). The single soul as an infinite collage of lessons and experience over eons. (Also: Branes in string theory, a soul as a membrane crossing spacetime.)  -  K.I.A., 36 x 30", acrylic on paper on wood panel.  (72" versions in development). Synchronicities are the rhythm across a song spanning many lives. For the last little while, I've been experiencing an extraordinary...

Word Works

Word Works

Word works, inspired by a dream where it was raining words, and as each word fell on your body, you felt it. The storm started out as a poem, then became a novel, then a library of books, a hurricane of stories and words. These are the first in this series. Each is seen as a page in a book, (smaller in size 9 x 12"), and will be numbered as such, ultimately to be exhibited in a linear sequence. The words are meant to be ineffable, speaking in tongues, language of the angels, whispers, on the edge of meaning. (other inspirations: Voynich manuscript. Cocteau Twins and Sigur Ros lyrics. The coding...

Genetically Modified Bouquet

Genetically Modified Bouquet

This work is a hybrid of photography, painting, sculpture, collage, digital construction and ikebana. It’s a genetically modified bouquet, a handmade jpeg of a flower arrangement… Time is also spliced in this work, the 19th and 21st centuries. A camera-less photographic technique from 1842 (which uses the sun expose the image) is used along with digital and biotech strategies to create the image. Discrete visual genes from within the work, along with pictorial DNA from separately created works, are spliced together to create something new. Though the work arrives at a fixed state after...

In A Myriad of Ages It Will Not Be Exhausted

If from a stick a foot long you every day take the half of it, in a myriad of ages it will not be exhausted. -Mohist School of Names (China, 479 BCE) The work is continuously destroyed This painting is cut in half every ten years. Each division makes it a new artwork, and starts the clock on its next destruction. The original state becomes unknown,  as the smaller and smaller pieces are placed in new positions.  All future states are also unknown, existing as probabilities, potentials, or impossibilities. Now or never Each painting can only be seen in each physical ‘now’ of the viewer, ...
