Genetically Modified Bouquet

This work is a hybrid of photography, painting, sculpture, collage, digital construction and ikebana. It’s a genetically modified bouquet, a handmade jpeg of a flower arrangement… Time is also spliced in this work, the 19th and 21st centuries. A camera-less photographic technique from 1842 (which uses the sun expose the image) is used along with digital and biotech strategies to create the image. Snow Collage IV – Ash, Snow, Bulrush, Wind

Composed from ash and wind on snow (a charcoalotype?), an ephemeral outdoor installation, an annual tradition. This one is about 15' diameter. (Previous ones, 30', here, and here, and some snow graffiti here.) 8 hours + to make; 8 minutes to disappear (it rained shortly after completion). Gone like the year. Inception paintings, paintings inside paintings. Many works made using found wind and sourced items across many specific locations and climates, destroyed and spliced together to make a single hybrid work. New work in the ongoing CRISPR series, which are a compression of time and space, experience and place, more on that HERE.   UPDATED: IMAGES ADDED I'm doing an artist residency at the Banff Centre fall 2017. (Artists, curators, critics, writers etc. from all around the world attend the Center to develop their work). I'm going to be doing the first stage of an infinite sculpture that is also a painting. That is also an installation. That is also an organism, a time crystal, a node, a mob, music, and a virus. A sculpture that is a function. This first stage will be ambitiously big, but it will grow even larger in scale as subsequent parts are made over time in other international settings or residencies....

This work fuses the silver palimpsest series with some of my text series, as well as my linear mandala/DNA spectrogram/sliced collage approach. It's also transtemporal -- there is a complex bas-relief texture of a Victorian petit point motto that reveals beneath the 21st century material. (The reflective quality of which allows the colors in the room, or the viewer, to resolve/dissolve into the piece. It also creates a shifting or unstable optical appearance as one moves around the work, with the different textures or sections luminescing at different angles or time of day.) The text...

floSTEPPA - 48 x 36" Now installed at collectors. This series consists of paintings inside of paintings; a palimpsest, a 3D collage. The work is the rapt series combined with the shift/drift series of paintings with the linear  works.  A textured abstract beneath a silvered collage beneath a linear wrap of metal beneath a resequenced acrylic.
