IOTA, Art collector, K.I.A.

IOTA, Art collector, K.I.A.

IOTA is a distributed painting. It is a single large artwork to exist in many different locations in 30 parts. It is a decentralized painting. Each individual work (24 x 18") exists as a standalone piece, but is connected to all others via horizontal, vertical, non-linear and color elements. Each piece however, is uniquely folded (its creases like a fingerprint), utterly unique within the collective. When a single section is on the wall, one knows it is connected  something much bigger than one sees, connected globally to others across countries, cultures, class, religions, time. (Metaphor!) The...

geotagged painting sculpture installation

Installation commission for collector, installed on their ranch. Site specific painting-sculpture, three iterations. Part of an ongoing global megainstallation composed of 'geotagged' recombinant components. Ultimately to be a painting (collage) made from many hundreds of components. K.I.A. 2018

distributed sculpture, decentralized installation

The decentralized sculpture / distributed painting idea extended outdoors; hi concept - lo materials, geotagged  by site-specific materials.  Below to be scaled up x 100. Monolith, column, detritus, array, line... developing. Various iterations below, some digital rendering of larger scale versions, then below that some images of CRISPR SCULPTR, a larger distributed sculpture, both real world and mocked up versions.   CRISPR SCULPTR a recombinant sculpture installation,  some iterations distributed. More HERE: IOTA: a decentralized...

Artitechture

This work is a 12' high ephemeral architectonic palimpsest, a crystalline tornado poem, an optically shifting spaceship skyscraper, a bas-relief diagonal tower of babel. Future iterations will be even bigger -- 30' high or long (on the ground), painting as monumental architecture. (And art as physical & mental challenge -- ephemeral does not equal effortless.  Art as intense sport, as Sisyphean marathon.) As it is done directly on the wall, it can only be experienced in one location. And as all walls eventually come down, it's lo-fi high beauty that can only be experienced for a moment...

floSTEPPA (installed)

floSTEPPA - 48 x 36" Now installed at collectors. This series consists of paintings inside of paintings; a palimpsest, a 3D collage. The work is the rapt series combined with the shift/drift series of paintings with the linear  works.  A textured abstract beneath a silvered collage beneath a linear wrap of metal beneath a resequenced acrylic.

dirty bits n gritty glitch, unshuffle n splice

Image: unShuffle, 20 x 26”, oilstick on canvas & aluminum tape, on aluminum, K.I.A. 2013. This whole series has a very complex bas-relief ‘subtext-ure’, which is overlaid with a second, nearly-hidden-but-thematically-related angular pattern created with the mirror tape; third and fourth levels of reference are sanded or etched-on before or after the main spray paint and oilstick layers. So: the painting reveals different information at different angles and in changing light. This is most apparent in “Hear Her, There He” (also the biggest in the series, 84” x 60”), where...

Glitch Graffiti

“NullPunk” mixed media on aluminum 60” x 32” Highly detailed bas-relief texture, paint enlayered with zero-point toroids,  valence bonds, quantum dot arrays, electron envelopes, crystalline grids, atomic shells... and lightning bolts. Didn’t add any firecrackers though. Inspired by a dream where I was to “wave the grid”. (The dream image was of a fractal/organic shape forming over a 3D grid; feeling was that the grid was 20th century, the wave is 21st). © K.I.A.
