roses are red she said
do you know
(she said faintly)
the robins they
are aggressive lately?
can't even go
into my back lawn
i'm afraid to be
swooped upon
roses are red
listen i know for a fact
roses are red
and violence is black
and my garden
(she went on)
how the flowers grew
and when the wind blew
they looked as though
they were dancing, so
it's now quite frightening
-they look like they're fighting
the sky is blue
that i don't have to prove
the sky is blue
as blue as bruises
and the grass
(she whispered)
in my backyard
i'd wear just slippers.
i need boots now
-sure the blades are greener
but they are hard,
their edges meaner
the night is black
one night in particular
that night so black...
but its morning darker
oh my daughter
(she half-smiled)
when she was small
she'd pick a daisy
then run like wild
to kiss me crazy
but things changed completely
no flowers now at all
her eyes are green
i think i know i hope that
she loves me but i fear
i loved her too hard back
these stars above
(she softly wept)
i used to love
but that night she left
they became sharp
and so dangerous
many angry darts
aimed at my heart
my love's a rainbow of color
please listen my dear daughter
love's a rainbow of color
in the downpour of your mother
love's a rainbow of color
love's a rainbow of color
in the deluge of your mother
love's a rainbow of color
love's a rainbow of color
in the reign of your mother
